Welcome!

Welcome to the Poetry Corner!  With the knowledge that this year marks Sigma Tau Delta’s 40^th Anniversary, the current officers for Eureka College’s Theta Lambda chapter ambitiously set out to increase our chapter’s presence on campus and in our community.  The Eureka College Young Poet Awards (ECYPA) is a new event for 2011-2012, created and sponsored by the Theta Lambda chapter.  

This idea evolved from two officers’ internship experience with Eureka Literary Magazine.  Occasionally they received submissions from high school and community college students which were notable considering the age and experience level of the students, but were not of the standard for a national magazine.  Wanting to encourage young writers, they approached the editor-in-chief, and asked if he would be willing to publish the winners for two separate but concurrent competitions:  a high school and community college poetry competition.  He agreed.  The purpose of this event is to affirm individual excellence in creative writing for younger writers.  Two professors of creative writing have agreed to act as judges for the ECYPA.
